Hot tip!

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra has just made "C reserve" seats available for the Saturday 27 March concert with Thomas Trotter. Normally these seats are considered the worst seats (with a poor view of the stage) but for organ enthusiasts they are possibly the best - up near the front, with a clear view of the organist.

The buzz created by the Inauguration Concert on Sunday, followed by numerous items on Radio NZ Concert and Radio NZ Concert (see below), has greatly increased interest in this concert. The Thursday concert was sold out many weeks ago, and now the Saturday concert is so full that additional seats have been released - they are unlikely to last long!

Best of all, these seats are actually cheaper - $48 each, or $43 for seniors - so you really have no excuse. Book tickets through The Edge - phone (09) 357 3355 or visit www.buytickets.co.nz. A booking fee will apply.

There will also be a pre-concert talk by Kerry Stevens in the Town Hall Supper Room, 7pm on both Thursday and Saturday. Free to ticket holders.

Also, for those coming to either of the two weekend concerts (APO on Saturday and Thomas Trotter recital on Sunday afternoon), please be aware that the Civic car park/Aotea Square redevelopment means the area by the Bledisloe stairwell (the one to the right of the Aotea Centre) will be closed for construction. including access from the Bledisloe walkway and from the car park via the stairs. The Town Hall stairs are also still closed, but the Civic stairwell (left of Aotea Centre) and access from the SkyCity Metro food court will be open. The Edge and Auckland City Council have arranged for staff to direct patrons to venues from 9am until 4:00pm and there will also be signs up.

Indra Hughes after performance

What a start! Indra Hughes and the collected members of three choirs are just some of the many who are rightfully delighted with their performance.

"Town Hall Wine" reviewed by expert

Wine bottlesPinot Noir 2008 Central Otago: "Red fruits; strawberry, raspberry, cranberry; hints of dry herbs rosemary, sage, and that classic wild thyme aroma. Seductively soft, round and creamy in the mouth with a sweet berry fruit finish. For your drinking pleasure".

Sauvignon Blanc 2009 Marlborough: "Punchy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with green apple, bell pepper, lemon curd and nettley. Round sweet and refreshing in the mouth this is a delightful easy to drink example of our most prestigious grape"

Comments by Dr John Forrest, Forrest Wines, Marlborough, New Zealand

If this catches your interest, why not go to the "Things to Buy" section of the web site and place an order?  Also available are copies of the Souvenir Programme, signed limited-edition scores of John Wells' Organ Symphony, and the children's book "The Auckland Town Hall Organ Book" - and of course, you can still Adopt a Pipe.

The Souvenir Programme will be on sale at the Sunday recital for $10, and will probably also be available at the APO concerts.
