MODEL ORGAN TO MAKE ITS APPEARANCE
Restoring the Town Hall organ is one thing, but understanding how it works is another. To enlighten the unenlightened, the Auckland Town Hall Organ Trust and Auckland City Council asked Orgelbau Klais to build a model organ for educational purposes. This ‘hands on’ instrument will make its first public appearance at the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s Open Day in the Town Hall, next Sunday, 28 June. From 1pm APO players and management will be on hand to demonstrate and answer questions about every instrument in the orchestra. There will be many activities, all free, in this, the APO’s first Open Day…including the demonstration organ. Members of Organ Trust will be there to demonstrate the model organ. You’ll have a chance to pump the wind, draw the stops and play the keys of this beautifully crafted little instrument. There’ll also be a display about the Town Hall organ restoration.
