MORE CHANCES FOR YOU TO HEAR THE TOWN HALL ORGAN IN 2012

In addition to the Town Hall Organ Trust’s four free Sunday afternoon concerts next year (on 11 March, 1 July, 23 September, 25 November),  three further concerts are announced.

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s managers were really impressed with the response to the organ recitals that preceded their 2011 Splendour of Bach series.  So they now want to offer a similar series in 2012.

Attached to the orchestra’s Great Classics series will be Great Organ Classics.  The artists and programmes for this APO/Town Hall Organ Trust series are still being finalised but the dates and time are set.

The concerts will be on Thursdays at 6:30pm on
12 April, 19 July
and 25 October 2012.

Admission will be free to ticket holders for the associated orchestral programme which begins at 8.00 pm.

AN EXCITING ORGAN AND ORCHESTRA INITIATIVE

Six new works are to be composed for orchestra and the Town Hall Organ.

In a further collaborative development, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and the Town Hall Organ Trust are bringing together six of New Zealand’s top organists and six of the country’s leading composers to work in pairs with the APO during 2012 to produce new repertoire for organ and orchestra.  The fruits of their labour will be heard during New Zealand Music Month in 2013.

The organists have been selected and now applications are being sought from composers.
Applications close on 1 November 2011.

More details can be found on APO's web site, by clicking here.
